Life Insurance Claims After Suicide

Whether a life insurance company can legally deny a claim on the basis of suicide depends on where the policy was issued and on specific policy language. Wertz, the Colorado Supreme Court agreed with Ms. Summers and her client that under Colorado’s Constitution, the Interstate Insurance Product Regulation Compact could not override a Colorado statute that required payment of her client’s death benefit.
